A Lasting Impact
Our discipleship study using the resources by John Mark Comer begin with the provocative question “who are you following?” With regard to our identity, Comer makes it clear that we are of disciples of something or someone. The question is what or who? In our current context of ubiquitous social media, we are frequently encouraged to follow the latest “influencer” and we are also challenged to list the numbers of people who are following us. Although, many people eschew the pervasive nature of social media, these platforms are becoming the primary sources of information for larger segments of our society.
One of the other provocative questions posited Comer asks “who has had the most profound impact upon your life?” While this question may seem almost too easily answered, it helps to set the stage for a more penetrating conversation about the ways our values and opinions are shaped and change over time by various influences. In the opening session of the zoom class led by members of the Adult Discipleship team, we’ll wrestle with this question and invite others to help us examine the persons that we hope to become.
It isn’t too late to request the zoomlink. Contact Dean Sutton if you’re planning to participate Thursday evenings at 6:00. We will continue the discussions on Sunday mornings during worship. We are looking forward to seeing you and we hope you’ll invite someone else to participate, too.
In Christ,
Jon McCoy
