The Mission of Jesus
The five-Sunday church-wide book study begins this week using Ray Vander Laan’s book “The Mission of Jesus” as our primary resource. As we study and learn together, we are able to identify some of the similarities between the reluctance of the disciples to go among certain people because of their fears and misunderstandings. We also learn about the frustrations of the people of Israel because of Jesus’ peaceful approach to liberation and transformation.
Change doesn’t always require a vicious fight when there isn’t agreement. The tactics of an adversary do not dictate our response. Because we desire to live as followers of Jesus and because Jesus has given us a mission, there is a lot to understand about the ways we and others respond to the invitation from Christ.
Over the next few weeks, we will journey figuratively through the regions of Capernaum and the Decapolis. Even if you don’t have the book, we are looking forward to having you as a traveling companion along this mission. We will see you Sunday morning in class and worship at 9:00 and 10:30 at both campuses.
In Christ,
Jon McCoy
