Picture Perfect

A photograph can be a powerful documentary that captures so much more than a singe moment in time.  A picture is worth far more than a thousand words because a photo captures more than what you may see at first or second glance.  As we anticipate the celebration of Mother’s Day, the photos shared by the congregation will reveal the hopes, joys and the fulfillment of many promises.

We fondly recall the overwhelming cascade of emotions and memories such as the giggles of children, the coos of babies and the declarations of undying love between young couples.  These events remind us of our foundation of faith in God.   The wedding ceremonies and the baptisms also remind us of the role of the congregation as a gathered body of believers to serve as witnesses to the persisting bonds of love that are established.  When those special moments become annual celebrations of meaningful milestones, we feel the Holy Spirit continually at working guiding us.

Even for those family who gather without the presence of their matriarch, the tearful  recollections attest to the depth of love and longing.   Similarly, for those who have experienced a miscarriage, struggled with infertility or experienced the death of a child.    We pray with and for one another.   May the increasing closeness of our faith community sustain us by the power of God.  Through the tears, we are strengthened as we not only remember the past, we also make memories that will nurture the faith of the generations to come.

Please invite at least two people to come to worship with you on Mother’s Day.  This especially of the people who may find the celebration of Mother’s Day difficult.  Pray for them, encourage them and stand with them as you serve as Christ’s ambassador.  Also, please don’t forget to submit one of your favorite photos with your mother to Roxi (roxi@christchurchquadcitie.com) so we can share it with the congregation during the worship services.

In Christ,
Jon McCoy
